Your printer is
designed to die.
This one isn't.
The Gutenberg Press 2026 — a cast-iron, cartridge-proof mechanical press rebuilt with 2027 engineering. Zero cartridges. Zero firmware locks. Every single part replaceable, forever.
The case against the modern printer
We didn't invent a greener printer.
We made the printer unnecessary.
The disposable printer isn't a flawed product. It is a working business model: sell the machine at a loss, lock the ink, brick the firmware, repeat in 36 months. Here is what that model costs the planet.
375M
ink & toner cartridges thrown away each year
Roughly 1,000,000 a day. Each takes an estimated 450–1,000 years to break down. Fewer than a third are ever recycled.
3.5 yrs
average life of a home printer
Then the waste counter trips, the part isn't sold, and the whole machine becomes e-waste.
£2,400
spent on ink over a decade
Ink is priced by the millilitre like a rare perfume. You own the printer; they own the supply.
62M tonnes
of global e-waste a year — printers among the fastest-growing shares
A press from 1450 still prints today. A printer from 2021 often does not.
A note from the workshop
"I buried four printers in six years. The fifth one I took apart."
Inside it was a page counter telling the machine when to stop working. Nothing was broken. It had simply been told it was finished.
So we went the other way. We took the oldest reliable printing technology humans ever built — the screw press — and rebuilt it with cast ductile iron, machined steel and a magnetic quick-lock plate bed. No cartridges to buy. No firmware to obey. Nothing in it that we won't still sell you a replacement for in the year 2126.
The Gutenberg Press 2026 isn't nostalgia. It's the end of the disposable printer.

“We retired three inkjets and a laser the week the prototype arrived. Nine months, 60,000 impressions, not one replacement part — and our studio has sent zero cartridges to landfill since.”
